Nikhila Vimal's Debut Finally Gets an OTT Release

The film Onbadhu Kuzhi Sampath, directed by Raghupathy, a former assistant of RK Selvamani, was lying in the cans for a long time. The movie has got a reprise now and will be seeing the light of the day.

Yes, the film will be released on Regal Talkies, top producer CV Kumar’s soon to launch OTT platform. At a time when there are umpteen corporate OTT services copying the giants – Netflix and Amazon Prime, independent platforms have sprung up in K’town, aiming at small budget films and grabbing a share of the streaming pie. They serve as a boon to low budget movies that had struggled to get theaters in the past.

Balaji and Nikhila Vimal essay the lead roles. National award winner Appu Kutty also plays an important role. “In fact Nikhila’s debut in Tamil must have happened with this film only. Since the film got delayed, her other films like Vetrivel, Kidaari etc got released. OKS deals with, among other things, the sport of marbles,” said the director to TTN Cinema.

He had more info on the film: “One game in particular that is popular in the Thanjavur area is a sport called Onbathu Kuzhi. Sampath is the name of the hero’s character in the film. So, the title Onbathu Kuzhi Sampath is about this guy who plays this marble game and how the intervention of a girl in his life topsy-turvy’s him forms the crux.”

He also vouches that the entire family at just one ticket’s cost can watch the film. While Kolanjinathan is behind the camera, Charlie is the music composer. Late lyricist Muthukumar has penned the lyrics. “There’s an ‘oppari’ song written and sung by Kanmani Gunashekaarn, which will create an impact,” adds Raghupathy.
