After ‘800’, Vijay Sethupathi offered to play the role of LTTE leader in web series

Opposition from a sections of Tamils had finally led the Makkal Selvan withdraw from starring in the sports biography drama of Srilankan bowling wizard Muthiah Muralidharan. Apart from the hashtags, #ShameOnVijaySethupathi and #BoycottVijaySethupathi, trending for one full day, the entire social media was continuously filled with scorn for the actor, who had agreed to play the role of the ace Sri Lankan bowler Muthiah Muralidharan in the biopic titled after the number of wickets he took in international cricket. Following outrage from Tamil nationalists and a section of film personalities and politicians in Tamil Nadu, actor Vijay Sethupathi has decided to opt out of a biopic of Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan.

Muthiah Muralitharan asked actor Vijay Sethupathi, who was roped into starring in his biopic, 800, to “step away” from the project so as to not encounter problems in his career in future. Vijay Sethupathi shared Muralitharan’s statement with a message ‘Nandri, Vanakkam’ and declared his withdrawal from the movie. Lately, the versatile actor has been offered to star in a web series which revolves around the life of LTTE leader Prabhakaran. Director AMR Ramesh will helm the web series and he has been visiting Srilanka to research in detail about the life of the LTTE leader. Interestingly, biopic is not a new subject to the director as he has already helmed films based on assassination of Indra Gandhi and life of forest brigand, Veerappan. However, people have been gushing about if  Vijay Sethupathi will sign the dots for the web series , after stepping out of his role in ‘800’ and his fans are awaiting for his response.
