“I will never act in films like Irandam Kuthu” – Actor Chaams

The teaser of upcoming adult horror-comedy Irandam Kuthu, which is the sequel to the 2018 film Iruttu Arayil Murattu Kuthu, was released on October 7 has caused a stir in the film industry. Director Santhosh P Jayakumar who helmed the original will direct and all play the lead role in the sequel. Apart from the director, the film stars Ravi Mariya, Chaams, Daniel Annie Pope, Shalu Shamu and Singam Puli. In addition, three female leads Meenal, Harishma and Atriki are making their Tamil debut with Irandam Kuthu. Prasad S.N has scored the music, and the film is produced by Rockfort Entertainment. The film is creating a huge uproar online ever since its makers released the promos. The upcoming adult comedy is getting slammed for its alleged vulgarity. While several people have been protesting to stop the obscene film from releasing, actor Chaams who is a part of the ensemble cast of the movie has taken to his social media handle has expressed that he has decided to star in adult films henceforth.
Chamms’s statement read as follows:
“Irandam Kuthu” was intended to enlighten me about this film and I expressed some of my skepticism and confusion. There were both support and opposition to that post. This post is to keep the advice given by my well wishers and now to tell my opinion and my decision.
My Opinion: Entertainment industry never stops surprising its audience. Over the years, it has advanced to great heights, releasing films with bold content. People are accepting Hindi adult movies with great maturity. They raise a lot of curiosity amongst the youth. We are also filmed an adult content film with the permission of the censor board. Santosh P Jayakumar, the director of this film, had asked me why you are so opposed to my film, which is allowed to be watched. Will you do it, if he does it? I could not go on hearing that like the others, I think the reasons he gave should be corrected. But I have never taken any effort to fix it. Never gave a voice. I haven’t posted at least one protest post. I have disappeared even after seeing the mistakes done by others as the director says. Beyond that I have starred in this film. So why did you make a film like this? I do not think I have the integrity to question that to my director.
My decision: I have acted with dignity in the films I have acted in so far. So far I am an actor that everyone from children to adults can enjoy watching on screen. Films of this genre are becoming the norm now and we are going to make fun of a thing known to young people of that age. What if I act when people have accepted watching? That’s the reason I starred in this film. But in order to keep my dignity in mind with the opposition to this film, I have decided to avoid starring in films with adult content like “Irandam Kuthu” though there is support for the film. Let me change myself first. “I think personal morality is the best.”
