Two prominent associations in the Tamil film industry – The South Indian Cine Artistes Association aka Nadigar Sangam and the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC) have been in trouble ever since the government appointed a Special Officer to oversee its functions following allegations of financial and administrative mismanagement. The tenure of the Tamil Film Producers Association executives ended on April 30, 2019. Earlier, the Government of Tamil Nadu had appointed Sekar as a separate officer of the Producers’ Association to carry out its functions. But Vishal filed a petition in the Chennai High Court against the appointment of a separate officer. The court upon hearing the case ruled out that the appointment of a separate officer could not be barred. Following such conflicts, the election was postponed due to this problem. Though several efforts were made to conduct the elections, none of them were successful.
It has been reported that the Producers’ Union election will be held in November. Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that Director Bharathiraja started a new Producers Association with several leading producers under the name of Current Producers Association.
