Aishwarya Rajesh to play the lead in Mundhanai Mudichu sequel

Veteran filmmaker Bhagyaraj’s blockbuster film, Mundhanai Mudichu, is all set to be remade in Tamil after almost 37 years. K Bhagyaraj’s cult classic romantic drama Mundhanai Mudichu is all set to be remade in Tamil, with Sasikumar reprising the role originally played by Bhagyaraj himself. Mundhanai Mudichu 2 is an upcoming Tamil movie starring Sasikumar and Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead roles. K. Bhagyaraj will be penning the story, screenplay, and dialogues with some changes. The movie will be directed by Balaji. The remake of epic blockbuster Mundhanai Mudichu was bankrolled by JSB Sathish under the JSB film Studios banner. While the casting couch busy finding the leading lady since it’s inception and finally have zeroed down to the Vadachennai actress Aishwarya Rajesh.

Aishwarya Rajesh is very excited to be a part of the project. She recently shared her happiness on Twitter and wrote, “Excited and honoured to be a part of the remake of #MunthanaiMudichu, one of Tamil cinema’s landmark films that’s stood the test of time. Watch out for this one in 2021!”. While sharing the same photo, M Sasikumar wrote, “37 years old & still the knot is too strong. Happy to be a part of #MunthanaiMudichu our favourite tale retold by the master himself @ungalKBhagyaraj @aishu_dil @JsbSathish @idiamondbabu.”

Mundhanai Mudichi revolves around Parimala (Urvashi) who falls in love with a widower-teacher Vaathiyar (K Bhagyaraj), who relocates to her village. Produced by AVM Productions, the movie released in 1983 and became a money-spinner at the box office and has been remade in Hindi, Telugu and Kannada. The movie is still popular for a scene in which Parimala prepares ‘drumsticks’ to consummate her marriage with Vaathiyar.
