Director Shankar’s debut movie “Gentleman” to get a Sequel after 27 years

Director Shankar’s name is synonymous with grandeur and some of his films are testimony to the same. It’s been nearly 27 years since Shankar made his debut as a director in Kollywood with Gentleman. The film’s success not only fetched him a strong place among the greats of Tamil cinema but also taught how a commercial film can be more than just an entertainer.

He later went on to direct blockbusters like Indian, Mudhalvan and Enthiran,. While the director is been busy brewing the sequel of his blockbuster flick “Indian”, the producer of the film KT Kunjumon revealed that he was making a sequel to the mega-blockbuster Gentleman. The sequel, currently titled Gentleman 2, will be produced under the banner of Gentleman Film International. The upcoming movie will be released in three languages, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Shankar’s debut movie , shed light on corrupt politicians and the education system in India. After two decades, the film is still celebrated as one of the most powerful vigilante films ever written in Indian cinema.

Gentleman which was released in 1993 not only grossed higher at the box office but is the recipient of several prestigious awards. The film starring Arjun and Madhubala, was a massive hit, breathing a fresh lease of life into the career of ‘Action King’ Arjun, introducing Prabhu Deva on the big screen with his livewire, energetic moves and dazzling the south Indian movie market with its stylish mounting and pulsating music.And now, almost after 27 years, the producer KT Kunjumon has announced that under his production, Gentleman Film International, he’d be making a sequel to his much-acclaimed Gentleman which has indeed stirred up our excitement level. According to the producer, the film will be shot on a lavish scale, using all the latest technologies in Tamil first probably in January or February next year.
